Learning by Experience 4

The main rule of coaching is...

In the last year of the university, I was giving private lessons to 5 secondary and high school students. The attitudes of each of my students were very different from each other. Although two of the students were siblings!

Over time, I started to understand more about the kind of persons these students were; what they love, what they don't like, what they expect from life and others. Some needed more enthusiasm and trust, some needed constant encouragement, some more witches, and constant control ... I learned that that year I could not teach or improve even 5 students with the same style and method.

When I became a manager years later, when I was told that you should coach your people into 4 main categories according to their level of competence and motivation, these 5 students came to my mind ...

After all: The main rule of coaching is to understand where the person you work is in terms of competence and motivation. In summary, competence is the set of skills needed to do your job well; motivation is the desire and determination to do her job ... Our dream is always to work with the most competent and self-motivated people, but that is not the reality. From time to time, the business falls on the manager. Like developing the people, it works in accordance with the pulse! You can ask your questions regarding coaching in the comments.
