Learning by Experience 42

On November 1st 2007, I started working in Turkey.

On November 1st 2007, I started working in Turkey. First issues:

1. Compared to our previous general manager, I was significantly behind in terms of industry experience and general work experience ... Also, I was female and 10 years younger, 38 years old. I thought these shoes would not be great for me, I thought, "Do your best, you will definitely have something good that I can put forward, they chose you for this role." After that, I neither compared myself nor allowed anyone to compare.

2. I was now the general manager of my friends, with whom I worked on an equal basis 10 months ago ... Even though we have friendly relations, I immediately realized that a few of my friends were not very happy with this. Especially one of them found himself suitable for GM and was very upset with the company. I told him very frankly that being offended by the company would be weary for him, that I was very willing to work with him, but he left after a short time and moved to another company. Everyone is free to live their choices; I think the worst thing is to continue “offended” in this short life. Also, it doesn't really make sense to be offended by companies in general😊, self-management becomes very important here.

3. Another important issue was where I would start to work ... In a short time when I was not in Istanbul, there were very important changes in the health system and an environment that required us to make faster moves especially in reimbursement issues was created. If necessary, I remember thinking that I have to stay in Ankara for 15-20 days a month and understand these issues very well, all other issues will be on the way ... as a matter of fact, I did. If I had entered a standard GM orientation event, I think there was no compensation for the time I would have lost at that time...

4. As with every new assignment, I worked an average of 12 to 14 hours a day in the first three months. This is not like an obligation for me, but it is something that develops with the love of learning the details that I do not know, and I think it is very beneficial ... Then I "never" continue to work like this, but... I am sure that it will bring harm, not benefit. This journey would continue for exactly 7 years... It would be one of the most important experiences of my life, not just in terms of work.
